On the afternoon of Sunday, February 22, the death of Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes “El Mencho” , alleged leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel , was confirmed, provoking violent reactions in various parts of the country, including the closure and blocking of several highways. The events took place in the municipality of Tapalpa , in Jalisco , as part of an operation by the Ministry of National Defense with military intelligence work from the National Intelligence Center and the Attorney General’s Office.
“El Mencho” was arrested, but gunshot wounds caused his death during his air transport to Mexico City. Authorities report that two other members of this criminal organization were also apprehended, and that weapons and armored vehicles, such as rocket launchers capable of shooting down aircraft and destroying armored vehicles, were seized.
