<\/figure>\n\n\n\n\u201cCharlie was going further and further out and was getting stuck in the reeds. You could see he was struggling to stay afloat,\u201d Jane told\u00a0Wales Online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jane worried, but couldn\u2019t go in after him: \u201cI\u2019m disabled, so there was no way I could\u2019ve swum out to get him. Which just left me standing there helpless on the bank thinking, \u2018What the hell do I do now\u2019?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then suddenly, a complete stranger jumped into the water and started swimming after Charlie!<\/p>\n\n\n\n It was no easy task, but the teen successfully swam out and reached Charlie. He freed the dog, and led him back to shore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe poor lad himself was also quite shaken up afterwards,\u201d Jane said. \u201cI think it had been a tougher swim than he\u2019d expected and I\u2019m really grateful to him for risking his own safety the way he did.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n While it was an ordeal, it was worth it to save Charlie\u2019s life. Jane was extremely grateful: \u201cSo I\u2019ve no doubt in my mind that had Connor not got to him right then he\u2019d have died,\u201d she told Wales Online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jane\u00a0shared the story on Facebook. She still didn\u2019t know the boy\u2019s name, but wanted to give him credit for his remarkable good deed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThis young Scottish lad is my hero!\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But as the post went viral, she soon learned his identity: Connor Telford, a 17-year-old from Dundee, Scotland. And she soon learned the eventful day was his first time in Wales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cHe lives in Scotland and arrived in Wales today, this was his first stop on his holiday in The Mumbles,\u201d Jane wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Needless to say, it was quite an eventful, and exhausting, start to a vacation: \u201cThis was the first day of Connor\u2019s first ever trip to Wales \u2013 and, oh my goodness, what a day it turned out to be,\u201d Connor\u2019s girlfriend\u2019s mother Shelagh told Wales Online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cHe\u2019s not a strong swimmer but launched himself headfirst into the lake with no thought for his own safety. He came out bedraggled, visibly shaken and was physically sick \u2013 but he\u2019s recovering well from his ordeal.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n But she says the teen has recovered thanks to some ice cream, and he\u2019s been widely praised as a hero online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWithout this lad and you all clapping and cheering him to keep him fighting then I\u2019d be telling a very different story,\u201d Jane wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Thank you to Connor for going out of the way to save Charlie from drowning!
